Pakistan's Internet Shutdown Raises Eyebrows Ahead of PTI's Virtual Spectacle

However, users found themselves frustrated and perplexed as they encountered difficulties accessing major social media platforms such as X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

Netblocks, the internet tracking agency, didn't mince words when it reported, "Live metrics show a nation-scale disruption to social media platforms across Pakistan..." The timing of this digital blackout couldn't have been more conspicuous, aligning with the PTI's virtual extravaganza.

Reports flooded in from major cities like Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad, where users voiced their grievances about the sudden internet slump around 8 pm. Some even reported sluggish internet speeds, adding a layer of frustration to the already perplexing situation, as detailed by Dawn.

During the online rally, Taimur Jhagra, former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa finance minister and PTI leader, took the stage to address the elephant in the digital room. Pinning the blame on the party's surging popularity, Jhagra boldly stated, "This is proof of the fear of the unprecedented popularity of Imran Khan’s PTI!"

The PTI, not one to shy away from expressing its views, made its stance clear on X, asserting, "In what was an expected move, the illegitimate, fascist regime has slowed down internet speed & disruption of social media platforms all across Pakistan, prior to PTI’s historic Virtual Jalsa!"
