Indian Navy Heroically Responds to Missile Strike on Merchant Ship

A recent maritime incident that unfolded in the Gulf of Aden, the Indian Navy showcased its unwavering commitment to safeguarding merchant vessels and ensuring the safety of lives at sea. The courageous response came after the merchant vessel Marlin Launda issued a distress call, reporting a missile hit that resulted in the ship catching fire.

The Indian Navy's guided-missile destroyer, INS Visakhapatnam, swiftly responded to the SOS call, rushing to the aid of the stricken cargo ship. On board the Marlin Launda were 22 Indian and a Bangladeshi crew, highlighting the multinational dimension of the rescue operation.

The navy's statement emphasized their dedication to responding promptly to such crises, stating, "Indian Navy remains steadfast and committed towards safeguarding merchant vessels and ensuring safety of life at sea." This commitment was vividly demonstrated as INS Visakhapatnam actively engaged in firefighting efforts on the distressed cargo ship.

The incident takes place against a backdrop of heightened concerns over Houthi militants escalating attacks on merchant vessels in the Red Sea amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. In response to this growing threat, Admiral R Hari Kumar issued clear instructions to address maritime incidents firmly.

This isn't the first time the Indian Navy has been called into action to protect its seafaring citizens. On January 18, a merchant vessel with Indian crew members faced a drone attack in the Gulf of Aden. In a similar display of readiness and efficiency, INS Visakhapatnam intercepted the vessel and provided crucial assistance.

December 23 witnessed another alarming incident when the Liberian-flagged MV Chem Pluto, carrying 21 Indian crew members, became the target of a drone attack off India's west coast. Once again, the Indian Navy swiftly responded, underscoring its proactive approach to maritime security and crisis management.

As the Indian Navy continues to play a crucial role in safeguarding maritime interests, these incidents serve as a testament to their dedication, courage, and effectiveness in responding to challenges on the high seas.
